Categories & the shop filter
How to structure categories so the shop filter looks clean and every category page ranks well.

Where:ProductsCategories
The filter sidebar shows your categories as a tree. Top-level categories are listed first; a + opens their sub-categories. The branch of the category being viewed opens automatically.
Recommended structure
Sunglasses Aviator · Cat Eye · Oversized · Polarised · Sports · Under $20 Men Men's Sunglasses · Bags · Caps & Hats · Belts Women Women's Sunglasses · Bags · Caps & Hats · Scarves Accessories New Arrivals
- Keep 4–7 top-level categories. Put styles, types and price bands underneath.
- A product can belong to several categories. Parent pages automatically include everything in their sub-categories.
- Sub-category labels are shortened in the filter: "Cat Eye Sunglasses" under "Sunglasses" shows as "Cat Eye".
- Categories with no products are hidden from the filter automatically.
- Drag the ≡ handles on the Categories screen to set the order.
Move a category under a parent
- 1Products → Categories → hover the category → Edit (Quick Edit cannot change the parent).
- 2Choose the Parent category and click Update. Keep the name and slug the same.
- 3Luxivia automatically redirects the old URL to the new one with a permanent 301 redirect, so links and Google rankings carry over.
- 4Check custom links in your menus, and purge your cache.
Category descriptions
Write 80–200 words per category. Luxivia shows the description below the products on the first page, so shoppers see products first and search engines still read your text.
